Karen is on the right track...kids, male and female, are being pushed into the societal image of adulthood faster and faster. Let 'em be kids while they can!!

Your article is spot on! Girls are growing up way too fast these days, and it is harmful to them. I became so disgusted with the choices and messages on girls clothing that I began my own clothing company with the idea to "Redefine Girly".

Moms are so happy to have a better choice, and girls love the shirts. When given better options, parents jump at the chance to do better for their kids. Sadly, there just aren't a lot of non-gender stereotyped, age-inappropriate gear out there.

Hopefully, I'm making a small difference.

Huge diff. btwn underoos and underwires...and yes, sexualization HAS gotten worse. Tons worse. These days it's hard to find a bra WITHOUT padding/pushups/underwires for preteens in plain ol' big box retail stores...just like it's hard to find unbranded solids, diapers, etc. in any of the mass market big box stores...The 'brand 'em womb to tomb' dynamic has kicked in universally...Robyn, I'll be chatting w/you offline about a huge undertaking I want you involved in on this very topic...you'll love it...Some real heavy hitters doing just what we discussed...uniting for the common good with one voice to make a difference and make change happen. Back atcha on this soon. Amy

My daughter isn't even allowed to wear pretend makeup. Call me mean, call me old-fashioned, but I want my children to stay children as long as possible. That's also why I won't put them in bikinis. Tankinis, maybe, but I think it's hard enough out there without Mom and Dad telling kids to be sexy, too.
