Dr. Robyn Silverman answers a question about attitude from one of her readers, Claire, in Bethesda, MD in this v-blog.
Dear Dr. Robyn,
My daughter, Lauren, seems to have a bad attitude about a lot of things. If it isn’t her performance at a competition then it is her friends, her school work, or even her hobbies! I don’t know what to say to her anymore. Is attitude unchangeable or can we do something about this problem?

This was such a great help for me. My daughter falls into this category and she’s just 5!
My 6 year old ..well she always has a bad attitude about everything. I don’t know what to do.
Hello Robyn,
I saw the article you were part of on the Today Show this morning, and I find myself as usual wanting to ask people in your profession the same question when it comes to childrens’ behavior, and that is:
Where do you get your information to base your conclusions about chilrens’ behavior and development?
Hi JT- Years and years and years of gender identity research, play research, normal social development research, and attachment research. Not to mention, in the case you are talking about here (the boy and the pink toe nails with his mom from 4/13/11), the ad for JCrew did just what it wanted to do– get lots of publicity. Ads like this are staged– this was not a candid shot in someone’s living room, but rather, a perfectly lit, perfectly timed, staged photo with a crew there to ensure that the products of JCrew shined bright. So this one ad really shows very little but playing– and posing for a camera!
Have a good day, JT. Thanks for writing in.
