How can we focus when there are so many things that compete for our attention these days? Teaching children focus when we have trouble focusing ourselves is one tough task. What takes our attention away? Our families, our jobs, school, friends, and a whole host of advertisements and media. And let’s not forget Facebook, Twitter, and our favorite popular blogs! We must make focus– that is, focusing on “wanted information” and ignoring distractions, a conscious, purposeful choice. It is crucial to our success.
How do you make yourself focus? How do you help your children or students to focus? We must make the decision to peel away the noise, get away from the noise, shut off the noise, shut out the noise, or whatever else we need to do in order to focus on the task or goal in front of us. We all have our tricks! What are yours?
